Overview
Trace Diagnostics (TraceDiag) 1.0 is the first add-on for Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 aimed at simplifying the configuration and usage of Enterprise Tracing for Windows (ETW). This powerful toolkit offers an addition to Windows tracing and gives users the ability to track failures as they move through the processing chain in IIS.
This very detailed diagnostics information, though, is difficult to use because of its complexity and command-line only interface. With TraceDiag 1.0, you can effectively use these same detailed diagnostics built-in but do so with a simplify interface.
Some of the fucntionality offered is the following:
- View Currently Executing Requests in IIS worker processes
- Trace requests as they move through the processing pipeline
Included in this download are three individual tools:
- Request Viewer
- IISREQMON.exe
- IISTRACE.exe
Features
The following features are offered by IIS Request Viewer:
- View worker processes loaded on your IIS systems
- See currently executing threads
- View request data such as
- URI
- Time elapsed
- Process Id of the request
The following features are offered by IISREQMON:
- Command-line interface to request executing data information
- Time-taken for a request during execution
- Current state of the request
IISTrace, the last of the tools in this toolkit, offers the following:
- Command-line tool to start & stop tracing
- Ability to configure what providers to trace all within a single command
- Offers functionality to narrow tracing down to a specific request
Benefits
This toolkit is the consolidated toolkit of previously individual tools. It is a great addition for those using the required operating systems.
Trace Diagnostics 1.0 supports both 32-bit and 64-bit platforms.
Requirements
This tool will only work on the following operating systems:
- Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1
- Windows Server 2003 R2
