Overview

WFetch is a graphical user-interface aimed at helping customers resolve problems related to the browser interaction with Microsoft's IIS webserver. WFetch allows a client to reproduce a problem with a light-weigth, very HTTP friendly test environment. It allows for very granuluar testing down to the authentication, authorization, custom headers, and much more.

Features

Testing Web applications for the many various Web applications that exist is a difficult task because of the differences between the various browsers.  WFetch simplifies this with a easy, yet compliant HTTP browser with no performance enhancements and the following features:

  • Nice, easy-to-use, user interface
  • Save usage logs results for later analysis
  • Supports most HTTP features outlined in HTTP 1.1 RFC 2616
  • Works against IIS and most other Web servers
  • Test one or all of the various authentication offered in IIS
  • Use multiple HTTP verbs to create unique requests and responses
  • Add custom headers and functionality such as testing compression support for Web servers

Benefits

The browser is often optimized for performance and will hide problems within your Web application.  WFetch 1.4 offers a alternative for testing your web applications allowing you to see the raw HTTP data as it is sent to and from the Web server.

Requirements

WFetch 1.4 works with most Windows-based operating systems including Windows NT, Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003\R2.

This version will upgrade any previous versions of WFetch including 1.3 which was included in the IIS 6.0 Resource Kit Tools.

Pros Can see exactly what the web server is sending back to the client. It does not "dumb down" error messages like a browser might do.
Cons The documentation is very sparse. It does not tell you how to pass the POST arguments when you simulate POST request.
Conclusion
Skip repetitive links
